Helping a Topeka Homeowner Recover After Two Trees Hit His Home
If you’re searching for siding or home repair near you in Kansas or a trusted exterior contractor near you, our team is here to help with honest inspections and long-lasting solutions.
🏠Kansas storms can turn dangerous fast—and sometimes the damage goes far beyond what you see at first glance.
Recently, we received a call during a strong storm from a homeowner north of Topeka named Sam. A tree had just crashed into his sunroom, which his family used daily as a living room.
With rain still coming down, the situation quickly became urgent.
🌧️ RESPONDING DURING THE STORM
As soon as we received the call, we grabbed a crew and headed north.
When we arrived, the damage was severe:
Roof holes exposed to rain
Broken windows
Structural damage to the sunroom
Our first priority was preventing even more damage.
The crew immediately:
Temporarily covered roof openings
Boarded damaged windows with plywood
Helped stabilize the affected area until permanent repairs could begin
📋 HELPING WITH THE INSURANCE PROCESS
Once the home was secure, we helped Sam start the insurance claim process.
But while inspecting the property with the adjuster, we noticed additional damage that wasn’t as obvious as the tree impact itself.
We documented:
Hail damage
Gutter damage
Additional roofing issues
Exterior damage that could easily have been missed
Being present during the inspection allowed us to point out issues the homeowner may not have known to look for.
🌪️ THEN ANOTHER STORM HIT
While waiting to see what repairs would be approved, another storm rolled through.
And unbelievably… another tree came down.
This time, it crashed into the home’s second family room.
At that point, Sam couldn’t believe his luck—and honestly, neither could we.
🛠️ MOVING QUICKLY TO GET EVERYTHING FIXED
Instead of waiting for another inspection and delaying repairs even longer, we documented the new damage immediately and sent detailed photos and estimates directly to the insurance company.
Because everything was properly documented, we were able to move the project forward and get all repairs handled together.
The home was fully restored, protected, and safe again.

⚡ A LITTLE HUMOR AFTER A LONG PROCESS
While taking the final “after” photos, another storm started brewing in the distance.
At that point, we jokingly told Sam:
“It might be time to move.”
After everything his home had been through, we all needed that laugh.
Storm damage can feel overwhelming—especially when problems keep piling up.
Sometimes homeowners don’t just need repairs. They need:
Guidance
Fast action
Someone looking out for the details
A plan to move forward
That’s why we take the time to help homeowners understand the process and protect their homes the right way.

⚡ IF YOU HAVE STORM DAMAGE
Check out our Homeowner's Checklist that shows you how to spot damage and how to fix small repairs yourself. Or jump to the section you need help with right now:
Your siding is your home’s first line of defense against Kansas weather.
Look for:
Cracks, warping, or loose panels
Faded or brittle sections
Areas where moisture could get behind the siding
👉 Even small damage can let water in and lead to rot or mold behind the walls.
🏠 2. Roof
Temperature swings and winter weather are tough on roofs.
Check for:
Missing or lifted shingles
Cracked or curling edges
Granules collecting in gutters
👉 Most roof problems start small—but can turn into leaks quickly if ignored.
Gutters protect your foundation and roof by directing water away.
Make sure:
They’re free of leaves and debris
Water flows properly through downspouts
There are no sagging or leaking sections
👉 Blocked gutters can cause roof damage AND foundation issues.
Windows are a major source of energy loss if not sealed properly.
Inspect for:
Drafts or air leaks
Cracked or failing caulking
Condensation between panes
👉 Poor window seals can raise energy bills and allow moisture inside walls.
Exterior paint isn’t just cosmetic—it protects your home.
Look for:
Peeling, bubbling, or cracking
Exposed wood or siding
Faded or thin areas
👉 Once paint fails, surfaces underneath become vulnerable to water damage.
Interior damage is often the first visible sign of a bigger problem.
Check:
Ceilings for discoloration or rings
Walls near windows or corners
Peeling paint indoors
👉 Water stains usually mean there’s an active leak somewhere.
Proper drainage prevents serious structural issues.
Look for:
Water pooling near the home
Soil sloping toward the foundation
Cracks forming near the base
👉 Poor drainage can lead to foundation shifting or basement leaks.
🏠 8. Doors
Exterior doors should seal tightly and operate smoothly.
Inspect:
Gaps around the door
Difficulty opening or closing
Visible wear or warping
👉 Even small gaps can let in moisture, air, and pests.
Flashing is one of the most overlooked (and critical) components.
Check around:
Chimneys
Roof lines
Vents and penetrations
👉 Damaged flashing is one of the #1 causes of hidden leaks.
These areas help your home breathe and stay protected.
Inspect for:
Blocked or damaged vents
Loose soffits or fascia boards
Signs of moisture or pest entry
👉 Poor ventilation can trap moisture and damage your roof system over time.
These areas protect your roofline and help regulate proper airflow through your attic.
Inspect for:
Loose, sagging, or rotting fascia boards
Cracked, soft, or separating soffits
Peeling paint or exposed wood
Signs of moisture damage, staining, or pest intrusion
👉 Damaged fascia and soffits can allow moisture and pests into your roof system, leading to hidden damage, ventilation issues, and costly repairs if ignored.
