How to spot exterior paint damage:
Cracked Paint on Wooden Siding

This panel needs to be repaired before the rot gets so bad it needs to be replaced. With Kansas humidity, it doesn't take long.

Cracked wooden siding

If you see a crack in your wood siding, clean area well, let it dry and apply caulk to seal before the whole panel needs to be replaced.

Rotted Wood Siding

This is what will happen when rot is not caught or dealt with. Before it had a chance to rot, caulk would have sealed it off. Now the whole panel needs to be replaced, maybe even the adjacent panels as well.

Peeling paint

This is the easiest damage to spot. If it is in one or two areas, scrape the old paint off, clean the area well and let dry, then apply primer and 2 coats of the same paint. It will stand out depending on how long ago the painting was done, but it is better than repainting your whole house.
